Overview

Thrift & Loan is a sophisticated financial management application designed to cater to the diverse financial needs of Shell employees. By offering a thrift savings platform and facilitating convenient access to loans and access to foreign fx allocation sourced by the company for it’s staff. Thrift & Loan empowers users to cultivate a culture of savings while providing them with the flexibility to meet their financial obligations effectively.

The Problem

Shell identified a significant challenge faced by its employees: limited access to foreign currency due to stringent policies and hurdles in securing reasonable loans. Recognizing the need for a solution, they aimed to develop a unified platform. This platform would not only alleviate these issues but also provide employees with a sense of security and control over their finances. Additionally, it would incorporate features to facilitate employee savings, further enhancing their financial well-being.

The Old design and system

While the old system, an ERP-based financial system was reliable for its time, it still needed improvements on its usability, and experience with accessing all its financial features available. The redesign however, addresses these issues and reflects the company's intention to foster financial empowerment, inclusion and employee satisfaction.

Road to make it better

To enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Thrift & Loan app further, the following roadmap outlines key initiatives for improvement:

Introducing Mobile(PWA First):

The Mobile design for the Thrift and Loan Solution creates an intuitive experience for users on smart phones and tablets. Since mobile devices are more popular amongst the intended users because of its remote flexibility, we had to prioritize the mobile design to this effect.

Transition from ERP

The need to overcome the existing limitations caused the transition from the ERP. Also, there were additional features since scaling that were absent on the ERP version so a scalable design with consideration on experience over time was important.

Continuous Improvement and Feedback Loop

Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the development team, encouraging experimentation and iteration to drive meaningful enhancements to the app over time.

Oops!, here is where NDA comes in, I will be skipping the research and other process i used to achieve this, and Only few features will be displayed

The Outcome

Introducing the new onboarding

I design an intuitive user experience that allows existing staff join the new app with just their staff id seamlessly,

The Dashboard

The dashboard feature serves as the central hub where users can access a comprehensive overview of their financial status, savings progress, loan details, and other key metrics. It provides users with real-time insights into their financial health, empowering them to make informed decisions and take control of their finances effectively.

Getting a loan

This feature is designed to complement the app's savings capabilities, offering users the flexibility to borrow money when necessary while promoting responsible borrowing and financial management practices.
